How a blog launched my business (and why i’m going back to blogging)
Do you ever feel tired, discouraged, or underappreciated in your work?
Do you wish you could have a chance to be more creative or have an outlet to pursue some of your own dreams?
I’ve been where you’re sitting. And it’s actually part of the story of how this blog launched my business.
The year was 2015.
I sat in the passenger seat of our car next to my new husband on the way to work, bawling my eyes out.
But nothing bad had just happened.
I wasn’t crying because my job was terrible. I didn’t hate my coworkers.
In fact, I had what at one time I probably would have considered my dream job.
But there was something deep down inside of me saying “This isn’t IT.”
It wasn’t what I’d set out to do. I wasn’t really using any of my giftings, talents, or skills in the ways I wished I could. I was struggling, living by vacation days, personal time, and wrestling with sitting inside a cubicle for 8 hours a day.
I knew there had to be something more out there for me, I just didn’t know what.
So I started getting up early. Sometimes when it was still dark out.
I set up a blog and I started writing.
I read books from people who started their own companies and built creative businesses.
And then eventually, I left that job and embarked on an adventure. And let me tell you, it was downright messy.
I made a lot of mistakes. I learned what I was terrible at.
I had the chance to be a part of some amazing things in cool places. I also found myself doing things I was not good at in places I didn’t belong.
But over these years of trial, error, and my up and down career adventures, one thing stayed the same.
The blog that never left me
Now it’s been 7.5 years since I start writing on this site, abbyflynn.com.
Through getting married, moving states, having kids, going freelance, starting a business… it’s been the blog that never left me. In fact, blogging helped me to find what I was looking for all along – ME!
Have you ever found something in your life like that? If not, you should.
Are you looking to start your own lifestyle blog? I highly recommend taking the Perfecting Blogging course from By Sophia Lee. I learned so much and it has helped me to grow my blog quickly more than anything else!
I always loved writing and storytelling. As a little girl, I’d sit in my room writing songs, creating books, reciting poetry… ANYTHING creative with words.
In high school, I learned HTML and made my own website. Then there was the Xanga, the Myspace, the Tumblr, then this site.
And it was blogging here that helped me to get some of my first freelance jobs writing blogs and doing social media.
For the last two years, it’s really been the hub of my business as a copywriter. It’s also been how some of my greatest clients have found me.
But a few months ago I started to get that feeling again – the one that said “This isn’t all.”
Because in all of the writing I’ve been doing every single day for all of my clients, I’ve missed writing for myself – and for YOU.
It just felt like it was time to bring the blog back.

Why i’m going back to blogging
Now… haters will try to tell you that blogs are dead. That no one is on WordPress anymore. That you’re better off on Tik Tok, Instagram Reels… wherever kids are these days. (GOOD LORD, HOW OLD DO I SOUND??)
But this blog launched my business and changed my life. And if I can help even just one other person find the THING that changes theirs – that will make it all worth it.
With the way the world is right now, I think more than ever we need spaces on the web where we can be amongst people that are just ready to be REAL. No facades. Just truth, a few laughs, and encouragement and inspiration when you need it most.
I hope that this website can be that place for you.
So WELCOME back to the new/updated/always been here Abbyflynn.com.
