We’re Having A Baby and It’s A _______ !

Welcome back everyone!
So the site has been down for a bit while I did some revamping and reflecting on what I actually want to be doing here. It’s been a busy last few months, so we have a lot to catch up on!
Let’s get started, shall we?

A Baby Announcement

First things first: Cole and I are having a baby BOY!!

That’s right folks. When you read this, I’ll be 21 weeks pregnant, and we’re elated to welcome our first (non-furry) little one into the world at the beginning of March.

Some of you may remember that earlier this year I posted Am I Ready To Be A Parent. Well, within 2 months we found ourselves saying “You know what, let’s just go for it and see what happens!”

We have so many friends facing fertility issues lately that we knew it was high possibility it could take awhile for us. So why not go ahead and get started with the trying? Needless to say, God worked things out real quick, so we’re doing this!

And really, for all the horror stories I’ve been told pregnancy so far has not been too bad at all.
Sure there was nausea at the beginning, but that’s cleared away in recent weeks.
We haven’t done much preparation yet, as our weekends have been filled with home repairs of other kinds. (This is a topic for another day!) But the thought of getting started soon is exciting.
Plus we’ve already received some offers for babysitting when we’re ready. WIN!

Forward Into the Unknown

Lately I’ve realized that for some, this life update may have come as a bit of a shock, so I wanted to quickly address that.

Baby Announcement - baby bump
Behold! It’s me with a baby bump.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not necessarily a “baby person.”
I didn’t babysit for cash growing up. Also, when people bring their newborns around I’ve been known to take extra long bathroom breaks until it’s over. I’m just more comfortable around kids who are old enough to have a conversation, thank you very much!

For all those reasons, this has led to a lot of questions about if we “meant to do this.”

And at first I couldn’t help but feel a bit hurt and offended by those questions. Of course we meant to do this! But I’ve realized it was ridiculous of me to feel offense. The overflow and outpouring we’ve received from our family and friends (even the very surprised ones) has still been more than we could have asked for.

So yes, there will probably always be that quiet little voice in my head like, “Are you REALLY ready for this?!” (Queue Jock Jams). But I think that’s 100% normal.

Yes, we know a child is a lot of work.
It will get expensive, and it will change our lives.
Yes, we are actually old enough (29 and 27 respectively).
And we feel confident that with God’s help we can do this.
It is an honor and a blessing to have the chance to be a parent.

So with that I’ll say, March 8th… we will be ready for you!

Have tips, tricks and thoughts for preparing for and welcoming a new baby? I WOULD SERIOUSLY LOVE TO HEAR THEM ALL! Drop me a note in the comments.  <3 Abby

  1. Well, I don’t have any tips for raising a baby – but I will come over and snuggle YOUR SON whenever you need a break. So excited for you three (and Izzy, of course).

  2. Loved this! For the record I was the same way about kids. …and still kind of am when it comes to other people’s children but you see I have 3 now so I liked parenting much more than I expected ha ❤️ So excited for y’all and enjoying watching the journey. You look beautiful!

  3. I DID babysit for money against my will growing up and HATED it. Lol. I worked in OB 2 years before Parker was born, and even though the babies were cute and cuddly, they were also so fussy and inconsolable and I thought, “am I going to be able to handle this?! They are so…annoying!” But when it’s your own baby it’s like no other love, as I’m sure you’ve heard. 💛 Cannot wait to see you become a mother and love on that lucky little boy! And you look awesome pregnant. 🙂

  4. Abby – Brian and I are right there with you, preparing for this new stage of life! We are due in the middle of November and are trying to mentally and practically prepare ourselves. We’ll be praying for the 2 of you as you get ready for your little man!
