3 Tips for Fighting The Winter Blues
I’m not usually huge on holidays or the winter, but I’m on another level for some reason this Christmas.
Our house isn’t necessarily decked out in holiday gear, but I did spend approximately $35 solely on Christmas cookie-making tools, if that tells you anything about where I’m at.
Why the additional vigor and spirit this year?
I think it’s mostly just had to do with needing things to look forward to lately. For once in my life I’m working really hard to fight the winter blues – to not let the cold and dreariness get to me. Here’s a few things I’ve found that have helped so far.
1. Get Inspired
So far the most important things have been staying active and inspired, so I’m full on gung-ho right now. I mean, family, friends, travel, time off, sleeping and (most importantly) the birth of Jesus are all great things to get hyped about! I’m also trying to journal, pray, and keep actively reading a few books that have been on hold as I have time.
In other aspiration updates, I’d like to be diligent about posting here again weekly. So that means getting my lazy self up earlier in the morning again so I can get a good amount of posts locked and loaded for the new year.
2. Set Some Goals
Writing in general is something I need to do more of, so that’s a major goal for 2017, among other super minor things like having a baby, learning how to be a mom, and finally finishing the house projects we’ve had going on for what feels like light years.
But all in due time! Good things can’t be rushed, despite how much I would like to do so.
3. Be Thankful
Other than that, I’m realizing the best thing I can do with this time is really enjoy and bask in the great things that I already have. I have such great friends, a mega cool husband, caring family, a fluffy dog, a warm house and a good paying job. The more I focus on those things, the less I long to be magically transported to another place and time in my life.
What about you guys? Are you looking forward to the next few weeks, or not so much? Do you have fun things planned for the end of this year, or do already have your head down looking towards the next one? What are some of your tools and methods for fighting the winter blues? Let me know in the comments.
