10 Powerful Bible Verses About Anxiety and Fear
Have you experienced anxiety lately in your life? It’s that uncomfortable feeling that courses through your veins kind of like drinking way too much caffeine on a Monday. It’s hard to explain sometimes, that moment when our anxious thoughts begin to take over, but when you know the feeling…you know the feeling.

The reality is our world around us is full of stimulation and stressors, and pressures that can feel too great at times. It can be so easy to get overwhelmed!
This is especially true when you’re a busy mom, dad or you already have a lot going on in your life.
I do feel like over the last couple years, people on social media and in our churches have finally started to be a little more transparent about their own anxiety and fear, which is amazing! It helps us to know that we’re not alone when we’re dealing with an anxious heart.

But anxiety didn’t just come along with our digital culture. Instead, it’s something that has been around for ages. We know this because it is directly referenced in the Bible and our heavenly Father mentions it in his Word.

Bible verses about anxiety and fear
Here are 10 bible verses about anxiety and fear to turn to anytime.
1. 1 Peter 5:6-7
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you”
You never have to carry your anxiety alone, friend. The Lord invites you to release control over your situation and lay everything you are feeling before Him, so you can walk in confidence and in freedom.
2. John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

The peace of the Lord is unlike anything we could ever experience in this world, and He invites us to rest in it daily. In every trial, in every feeling, in every moment, God’ perfect peace can fill our hearts and our minds when we get quiet, let go of the distractions, and ask Him for help.
3. Psalm 94:19
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”
Have you ever felt a joy in the midst of a hard day that is simply indescribable? Whether it be a reminder of the heart of your children, or a feeling of comfort in a stressful situation, the Lord provides an opportunity for you to experience joy, no matter what is going on around you. Keep your eyes open and be on the lookout for these situations. They’re reminders to me that God cares about the cares of my heart, and yours too!
4. Hebrews 13:6
“So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
The Lord is more powerful than anything you could ever encounter. He desires to walk with you through your situation and reminds you that He is a very present help in times of trouble!
5. 2 Thessalonians 3:16
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”
Don’t let anxiety steal your peace! You have access to the Lord’s peace in every moment to come back to a place of stillness and rest. This is good news when everything around you feels like it’s falling apart. Jesus is the God of hope and peace and He has both things available to us in large supply.
6. Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Does anyone else tend to stress out about the unknown like me? The Lord knows every single detail about your life. The places you will go, the people you will meet, the trials you will face, and His plans are good. God’s goodness is greater than every plan of the enemy over our lives.
7. Psalms 84:6
“What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord…when they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs.”
There are so many places in the Bible where you can be reminded of the joy that comes from the Lord, even in the shallowest valleys. He turns valleys of weeping into places of refreshing springs! How great and wonderful He is!
8. Romans 8:38-39
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow — not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”
Just like the verse says, there is nothing that could ever separate us from God’s love! Absolutely nothing. What are some fears you are holding onto that you could let go of and give to God?
9. Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
The next time you start to worry about the things around you, take a moment to remember this verse. The Lord tells us not to be anxious about our life, but to pray and give thanks. There’s something special to be found in presenting our requests to God, and the peace we often receive from Him in return.
10. Psalm 23:1-4
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.“
This Psalm is a reminder that the Lord is with you wherever you go. There is no place you will ever walk where He will not be right beside you; no feeling you could ever experience that He doesn’t have the ability to comfort; no day He will ever leave you behind.
Find rest in knowing that He is always with you, no matter what.
How to fight fear with faith
Don’t you just love that God’s Word speaks to everything we could ever experience in our lives? A place that we can turn to when we don’t know what to do?
If you’re feeling anxious or afraid, He knew before you were even born that you would be feeling how you are feeling right now, and He will never let you fall.
There is not a single hour that He isn’t with you and willing to comfort you and we can find promises of this all throughout the Bible.
The Lord Jesus Christ is with you, taking care of YOU in everything you are going through right now.
If you’re dealing with intense anxiety and fear in your own life right now, here are 3 key ways to fight fear with faith:
1. Remove the distractions in your life and start committing time to reading God’s Word consistently. Turn off social media for a few days and instead pour time into your relationship with God. Not sure what to read first? All 10 of these verses are a great place to start!
2. I’d also encourage you to talk with someone how you’re feeling, someone like a trusted friend, a Christian counselor, pastor or mentor who can support you and pray for you when you walk through hard times. You can find someone at your local church, through a trusted friend, a service like Betterhelp, or searching for a Christian counselor in your area.
3. I really do believe that journaling can do wonders. Write about how you’re feeling and when you feel overwhelmed. Get it all out of your brain and onto paper. Write lists if that helps, get your worries out of your brain so you have room to put other goodness and positivity in.
The spirit of fear will naturally show up in our lives because we are imperfect people, but as 2 Timothy 1:7 says,
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:7
The Word of God is true, even in your toughest circumstances and you are not alone. The love of God is available and present for you right now.
He knows what you need, friend. Spend time with Him, get to know Him, and be honest with him about your anxiety today.
Our God is truly a God of peace and love, and there is rest to be found in His presence- in our hearts, bodies and minds. He is a wonderful Father, and He will help you get through this!
