In today’s fast-paced world, our lives seem to be in a constant whirlwind. Our to-do lists are never empty and there are so many expectations and pressures that we put on each other and ourselves. One thing I’ve found that helps tremendously, especially as a mom? Practicing some easy Christian mindfulness exercises!
Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment, focusing on the here and now, and letting go of distractions and worries. It is a powerful tool for reducing stress, increasing focus, and improving overall well-being.
In the last few years, I would say there’s definitely been a growing interest in Christian mindfulness exercises, which combine the principles of mindfulness with Christian beliefs and practices.
Much like Christian meditation, exercises like this can help us to deepen our relationship with God, connect more fully with our faith, and find peace and clarity in our daily lives. When you’re stressed, overwhelmed or anxious, practicing exercises like these can make a big difference!

Additionally, in Psalm 46:10, the Lord tells us to, “be still and know that I am God.” This verse encourages us to take time to be quiet and still, to focus our minds on God and to be fully present in the moment.

In addition to reading my Bible, dedicating time to being quiet before God, working on being fully present and engaged in our daily routine, and serving others can make a huge difference in helping you find a greater sense of peace, contentment, and joy in life.
Overcoming Challenges to christian mindfulness
Dealing with Distractions
We all encounter distractions that can keep us from sticking with healthy habits like mindfulness. This can be everything from work to the constant ding of your cell phone to your own internal thoughts and emotions.
To deal with distractions, I find it helpful to acknowledge them without judgment and then refocus my attention. Put your phone in a drawer for a few minutes. Put on a show for your kids to get 15 minutes of quiet time in.
And when you can, try to practice mindfulness in the early morning, in a quiet and peaceful environment, or with earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones to reduce external distractions.
Addressing Spiritual Dryness
At times, practicing mindfulness can feel dry or unfulfilling, especially if we don’t “feel God” or are feeling distant from his presence. But just because you don’t feel Him in that moment doesn’t mean He isn’t real or He isn’t with you.
Stick with your mindfulness exercises. Keep making time for prayer and to study God’s Word! Life is a journey and so is your faith. Progress will not always be linear or immediate, but the time you set aside to refocus on what matters most will always be worth it.
