The Nitty Gritty: Why Passion Matters After All
So as part of 1 week of writing prompts I’m doing to reignite my passion for writing, I’m supposed to write two or so paragraphs on why I started this blog and what I hope to get out of it. I feel like I already wrote something like this before, but figured it couldn’t hurt for me to ask myself these questions again. Plus, it will be good for any of you that might need to catch up! Great so..
I love to write. I love to chat about the common human experience. In high school I randomly decided to teach myself HTML. (This is back when we all had dial up.) I built a website on a free hosting platform. It became this weird space called All Us Goofs where my friends came to leave messages for each other, get anonymous advice, and (gasp) talk in chat rooms. Long before Facebook it gave me a unique outlet to create and express myself.
Fast forward to now. I’m working on rebuilding the passion for creation that I once had. I love writing, and I love the idea of building some sort of online community or “support group” if you will for other people. I OBVI don’t have it figured out yet, as this is just a regular old girly blog right now. But just you wait…
I’ve tried dipping my toes in a lot of different things in my adult life so far, but for most things my heart just isn’t in it. We all know when you’re heart isn’t in something you don’t do your best work. And that’s why I think passion matters after all.
In reality I can’t find ANY job in the world right now that really peaks my interest and excites me quite like the thought of creating and doing my own thing. And though I’m absolutely nowhere close to that point right now, being at a place of learning and stretching again is giving me hope that all that is very, very possible.
So what about you?
What creative outlets do you have that you’re currently passionate about? Have they changed over time? Is there something you’re looking at trying or getting into in the near future? Tell me in the comments. C’mon you!
I love this! As a junior in college, I’m looking at the question of “What am I passionate about in life?” basically every single day as I head toward graduating. I’ve currently struggled with where to take my blog content and how to keep growing, and I’ve had to refocus it back on passion. If I write about what I’m passionate about, the worst that can happen is that I enjoy writing and no one reads it, which I know won’t happen (that’s what my mom and my fiancé are for! haha) and best case is that I connect with people through my writing and grow personally. 🙂

Exactly you are so right!! And I think when you write about what you are passionate about, the right people will be drawn to that, and that’s how you wind up with loyal readers! Finding a balance between what you want to say and what you think people want to hear is the line I will probably forever be towing. 😉 And yes if your loved ones are still reading that’s what counts most!!
I love this! I love that you taught yourself HTML in high school (and I remember the ‘dial up’/pre-Facebook days well! lol). I know I’ve mentioned before how much I like your writing style, so I’m excited for whatever you have planned! I have always been creative – crafts, DIYs, etc. I had never considered myself a ‘writer’ (and still don’t!), but I am very passionate about blogging. I think about it more hours that I want to admit to and it fires me up inside, so while I have several passions, blogging is my main one!
I DO sometimes miss Pre-Facebook days. Life seemed so much simpler then! And thanks so much Vicky I really appreciate it- right now I’m mostly just figuring it out as I go. 🙂 The great thing about blogging is it can incorporate so many of your other interests as well!
Since I know you well Abby I know you are one completely creative person and that writing is only one of your many talents!
I am also a very creative person. One of my greatest passions is starting my day with exercise. This practice allows me to start my day as stress free as possible. It also gives me tremendous clarity in my thinking.
A second passion in my life is finding inspiration for my day and life from the pages of the bible in combination with a favorite devotional book.
My third passion would probably be that I love to learn. The discovery of learning to do something I’ve never done and then finding out it is also a pleasant thing to do creates new found joy for me.
Finally, i enjoy encouraging others. This is the reason i write my blog at faithfitnessflowers.typepad.com. I just wish i could find the time to learn how to set up the social meeting buttons so that they work on my blog.
Thank you Mom I appreciate it! And you are so good at the things that you mentioned, as well as so so many more! I think the best is when you can find opportunities to do multiple things you’re passionate about at once, and blogs are a great way to combine all of those.
And the social buttons are actually pretty easy! I can show you next time we are in Ohio if you’ll remind me!
